ABOUT

Caio Csizmar is a Brazilian composer. Born in Alfenas - Minas Gerais, he discovered a passion for music early on, starting music classes at the age of 7. His interest in composition was awakened at the age of 12, where he soon began his studies as an autodidact. He graduated in Composition at EMESP Tom Jobim and is currently studying Composition at UNICAMP.

His work has been selected for participation at numerous festivals and programs, such as in the “a very small consortium call for miniatures” (2020, USA), Festival Escuta Aqui! (2020, Brazil), XXX Panorama da Música Brasileira Atual (2022, Brazil), 10th St. Petersburg International New Music Festival “reMusik” (2023, Russia), 41ª Oficina de Música de Curitiba (2024, Brazil), Festival Plurisons (2024, Brazil) and Inštitut .abeceda "precept.concept.percept X." (2024, Slovenia).

In 2023, he was selected for participation at the Atelier de Composição Lírica do Theatro São Pedro, one of the most important composition programs in Latin America that foments the creation of an opera and grants a scholarship to those selected.

He has worked with groups such as the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME), Vertixe Sonora, ORTHESP, Ensemble Plurisons, Ensemble Móbile, a very small consortium and Banda Jovem do Estado de São Paulo. His work “Trio” was published at the UCLA Library Contemporary Music Collection.

He studied with Rodrigo Lima, Flo Menezes, Denise Garcia, Tiago Costa, André Damião, Rodolfo Valente and Tiago Gati. He had individual lessons with Januibe Tejera, Dmitri Kourliandski, Yuri Kasparov and Marcio Steuernagel and also participated in workshops with Michael Pisaro, Deqing Wen and Svetlana Lavrova.
 

During the pandemics, in 2020 and 2021, he developed experimental projects for electric formations: the albums Meândria and Decriptas, the last one having been funded by the Lei Aldir Blanc grant for the arts.
